BBQ Pet Peeves

If you've been reading my blog for awhile. You know I have a few pet peeves about Q-raunts. If you haven't been reading for long. You can consider this my Clif Note's version of my blog.

ONE SIDED TOAST

I don't know why one sided toast bothers me so much but it really does. Maybe it's because toast really isn't that hard to make. So I have to smack my forehead everytime I'm served a piece of one sided toast and wonder "Why not just serve me a piece of bread if you can't take the time to toast both sides?"

CHOPPED, FOLDED, SPINDLED, MUTILATED (Insert meat here)

If the menu says pulled pork. I'm expecting to see hand pulled pieces of pork shoulder. When cooked properly it takes just a matter of seconds to turn a quivering pork shoulder into tasty strands of pulled pork. If you are going to chop it to teeny, tiny, pieces then call it chopped pork and I'll know to avoid it.

I'm a little more forgiving when it comes to chopped brisket. I would prefer it not chopped so fine it's like eating browned hamburger. I do also prefer that chopped brisket comes from the point. The flat slices well the point chops well. So why buck the trend?

SAUCED MEAT

Ok, I know this one is a little subjective. In some regions of the country BBQ without sauce is unheard of. I can accept that if all the meats are served sauced. When only one of your meats is served sauced I start wondering why. What's wrong with that one meat that you felt the need to add sauce to it?

  2. I grew up on toast that was done in the broiler, lots of butter on top, dry on the bottom and I still like it that way. I doubt they are trying to save money or time, just a style that some people like. Electric toasters started the two sided toasting and you buttered the toast after the fact.

  3. Country gal to the core...I prefer cornbread with my BBQ and it is hard to come by at BBQ places. I am always on the prowl for good BBQ. BTW have you been to Bosco Joe's BBQ in Seminole? I highly recommend the brisket, sides are good too.

    1. I have had the pulled pork cornbread at Spencer's Smokehouse in Midwest City, OK and it was really good.

Just off the top of my head I can't think of a single Q-raunt that serves cornbread instead of bread or toast.

I have a June road trip in the planning stages and Bosco Joe's is the first stop on the list.
